Most of what brings people into therapy lives in the body as much as the mind. The anxiety that never fully quiets. The tension that never fully releases. The sense of being cut off from yourself, going through the motions, present on the outside and somewhere else entirely on the inside.
Talking helps, but only up to a point.
Somatic work goes where talking alone cannot reach. It is not a technique layered onto therapy. It is a different way of being in relationship with yourself, one that starts with the body rather than the story about the body.
I am trained in Somatic Experiencing®, a body-based approach to healing developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine that works directly with the nervous system. Rather than asking you to revisit what happened in detail, we work with what your system is still carrying and help it complete what was interrupted.
This is careful, paced work. You will not be flooded or pushed. We move at the edge of what is manageable, always with your full participation in the pace.
Somatic work is especially useful for people who have done years of talk therapy and reached a ceiling. People whose bodies are still living in something their minds have already processed. People who feel disconnected from physical sensation or, at times, overwhelmed by it.
The people I work best with are not looking for more to analyze, but are open to a more direct, body-based way of working.
Your body is not the problem. It has been trying to protect you. This work helps it finally feel safe enough to rest.
If that resonates, you are in the right place.
